I have always been a creative person.
As a kid I used to sit in my room and draw and paint for hours on end. A solitary pursuit you may think, but the need to create has always made me happy and is the best influence anyone could ask for.
So it was no surprise to those around me that I would go onto study Illustration at KIAD and then continue my studies at Middlesex University to gain my PGCE. I became a teacher and taught at an all boys secondary school for 20 years.
Managing this full time job, along with a family and the determination to continue my own practice was challenging but they say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
Now its time to concentrate on making my own work and enjoying the challenges that being a full-time artist brings.
My work is largely based around the natural world, however who doesn’t enjoy painting a vibrant still life too? So you’ll come across some juicy pieces of confectionary.
You’ll get to see the re-occurrence of themes….CIRCLES SPHERES, PATTERN, COLOUR and TRANSPARENCY. I generally work from life, sometimes in a very representational way. This does not mean however that I don’t RE-IMAGINE and develop my take on NATURE and has resulted in many of my pieces becoming more and more abstract.
Over time I have produced a porfolio of work, including commissioned portraits, large original acrylic pieces and smaller watercolour, pen and ink paintings. These are complimented by giclee mounted and framed prints as well as blank greetings cards.
I exhibit as often as possible:
