Well I’m not sure about most of us, but sometimes it is just a thing I’m compelled to do, create

Sometimes however, it’s a real grind to drag myself to create

Of late, creativity has been in bountiful supply, but unfortunately not for my own work

Most of my ideas have been directed towards A level students. A fabulous thing to do, that’s for sure, but as a consequence it has meant I have had very little left for my own work

And one of the benefits for the students, is that I am loosely connected to the work of local artists.

As a result I have been able to connect the students to some of the great talent we have in this area.

Students have made connections with working artists, which is such a wonderful thing to be able to do for both students and artists

My own work

So, thankfully, I have been fortunate to have some old paintings to work on. Is that right? Yes, those paintings gathering dust in the back of a shed/studio that you made with great hopes and later on you feel less enamoured. That’s why they end up in the back of beyond and they’re ripe for painting over

Another over painted painting

So many paintings to be reworked. This one had been an unfinished piece which I quite liked. I never really knew where to go with it.

I’m now much happier with what I’ve done

I added more colour, more opaque acrylic paint and stronger dynamic line

Another reworked painting

This one is a little painting which I adapted and worked on in a totally different way from previous paintings. This feels mythical and ethereal. Lots of overlap and layering and underpainting

An impasto repainting of an old painting

Most of these paintings were reworked during the half term week. Needing to get myself organised for upcoming exhibitions

I’m quite happy about this painting. I didn’t know how this painting was going to come out. Another one of those paintings hanging about.

This one was part of a series I just never got round to finishing. I’m relieved I didn’t complete it. I much prefer this to the other paintings in the series

A different colour palette to the original blues, greens, pinks and yellows

Various people have commented that this painting reminds them of the work of Kandinsky. I’m hugely flattered as he’s one of my artistic heroes

Tendrils

Red and green mixed media painting

An over painting of something organic. This evolved from the under painting. Marks dictating the lines, shapes and lines. The joys of being an intuitive painter is the unexpected outcomes and the experience when working things out

A painting that just needed to be painted over

The painting under this new one, was one of my least favourite. And definitely needed to be painted over

Lots of texture, pattern and overlaps and a happy outcome

How do you come up with the titles of paintings?

I never know how to

I struggle with titles and cringe when I read back what I’ve named them. Anybody else?

So I’ve sort of decided to be cowardly and just go for untitled, numbered or list colour and number

Don’t judge me! It’s also because I can never remember what I’ve named them!!!

Upcoming events

Right so here goes with what things I’m up to in the months ahead

Currently I have 3 paintings exhibited at the beautifully curated Artists at the Meadows in Chelmsford

Artists at the Meadows

And my paintings even made a backdrop to some filming that took place in the gallery recently

Ringed in red are my 3 paintings

Fingers crossed I get my application in on time and I get a place in this highly respected exhibition

Southend Art Club Exhibition

Had such a successful exhibition last time, selling a couple of paintings and getting lots of positive feedback from my work

The event was so beautifully organised and well supported

So enjoyed being a part of this event

Will update you all if this happens for me

But will definitely be visiting which ever way

OLAM8

Delighted to be back at one of the cultural events in our local area

Such a fun event and hopefully a successful one

Fingers crossed the weather is kind to us. Never quite sure what we’ll do if it’s chucking it down with rain

Lots of great art, chats and friends who support

Festival Conclusion Concrete Canvas

This one is a great event to be involved in

Unfortunately not painting as part of the festival this year, but delighted to be part of the closing event

Live street art, stalls and music in Bond Street Bowl

Great shopping in Chelmsford, after seeing all the amazing new Street Art in the city, followed by local artists work up for sale

Made in Colchester Makers Market

This is sort of new for me. And I mean sort of, as I’ve done their Christmas fair

Missed doing the Christmas event last year as I made an error! Forgot to pay for my stall. Oops!

And finally

Semblance of Order

Keep your eyes peeled for info about this upcoming event

Don’t want to give too much away yet! Difficult for me has to be said
