FLORAL COLLECTIONS
An interest in flora has been with me since a child, spending hours in the company of my plant loving grandparents
Therefore, it is no wonder that I should end up fascinated with flowers as subject matter
Along with my love of colour and natural form, this interest has lent itself to my intuitive painting techniques. In more recent paintings, the botanical aspects of my work has become more rhythmical and pattern like
In my floral paintings, I explore colour, movement, and atmosphere inspired by the natural world. Through layered paint and expressive, intuitive brushwork, I blend abstraction with organic forms to create a sense of warmth and balance. My work aims to bring a feeling of light, calm, and gentle energy into contemporary spaces, reflecting my ongoing exploration of nature through colour and form
A common theme in my work is shape. I have begun investigating natural shape through the use of negative space painting. With reference photographs I have begun to look at natural shape in a simplified form
Still using the intuitive approach to the application of the initial paint surface, I have begun to use flat opaque colour to define shape
The formal quality of the geometric line against the organic shapes forms a juxtaposition

A celebration exhibition for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. I decided to select national flowers from the Commonwealth countries.
The flowers represent aspects of each nations identity and I tried to capture their qualities, using a loose painterly style
